Boeing B-29 over Alberquerque Feb. 1945
The Boeing was the first pressurized aircraft I flew on. I was the Tail Turret gunner and assistant Flight Engineer. It was terribly lonesome back there pressurized and you could not get out. I really got hungry after those 16 hour missions. They were eating hot meals up front. I had a 29 inch waist.
Several years passed and we were on this same runway summer before last lined up and ready for Take Off. As we started up with the power I call out and said 58 years ago I was on this same runway ready for take off. We were on one of those famous B-29's.
Also another strange thing happened in Alberquerque. I noticed that some of our fellow airman were coming up missing which was unusual. About the time we finished our training and on our way to Tucson to meet up with the rest of our squadron. We heard on the radio that the U.S. had dropped a strange bomb on Hiroshima.. We all said over a pitcher of beer that night. So that's where our missing crewmembers went. It was true.....
