Sperry Ball turret on B-24 with lights

Consolidated B-24 Aircraft. I flew on this fantastic aircraft in the year 1944. As you can see by the photo I was a ball turret gunner and of course the best.
One time we were on a mission and for some strange reason"my mistake" I got hung down in the ball turret. I soon realized that we could not land in that configuration. I stared calling on the interphone and finally the navigator heard me and came back to help me get out. I heard him jumping on top of the turret and I felt it release. Now I could use the electric system to orperate.
If the ball failed to retract in the aircraft it was necessary to salvo the ball by taking out a few screws. I later learned that a ball turret gunner had the most dangerous job in WW-II. Why didn't someone tell me.
