R.A.C.E.S is very much part of this alliance. Amateur radio operators attend special weather watcher training, and become part of the SKYWARN system. Weather spotters are sent all over Tarrant County to look at approaching storm clouds. The system works in conjunction with the National Weather Service to confirm and augment radar images of thunderstorms. Storm information is relayed through this "Weather Net". The fire and police departments monitor the "Weather Net" radio channel, 146.940, in order to give the earliest notice of approaching severe weather. The visual confirmation of approaching weather provides accurate information to base storm warnings and outdoor siren activation. The Hurst Amateur Radio Club meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 pm at the Hurst Library. For more information contact Fire Administration at 817-788-7238.
